7 Regionalization The availability of data is an important aspect in frequency analysis. The estimation of probability of occurrence of extreme floods is an extrapolation based on limited data. Thus the larger the database, the more accurate the estimates will be. From a statistical point of view, estimation from small samples may give unreasonable or physically unrealistic parameter estimates, especially for distributions with a large number of parameters (three or more).
